NEW INTRO, EXTRO AND EXTRO-PLAN SOAPDISHES
As the title suggests, these soapdishes designed by Klaus Bürger and Udo Hasenbein, stem from a reconsideration or adaptation of other pieces designed at an earlier stage. The factor common to all three, apart from the materials used (ceramic and the support element, which consists of a tile or rather its mounting), is that all of them respond to the idea of a product in which the form is reduced to simple lines, creating a precise and formal language. Manufactured by the Villeroy & Boch company, they are called: Intro, Extro (both mean embedding, according to the designers) and Extro-Plan. The measurements of the first two are identical,
15 cm x 15 cm, whereas the Extro-Plan is 15 cm x 30 cm. The latter seems to be a kind of synthesis of
previous models, since it has both the flat surface of the first and the concave shape of the second. However, it lacks the fluting of the Extra and the curves of the Intro, which create and make a series of spaces at the bottom. The only feature which could be said to have decorative intentions is the fluting which, as well as helping to differentiate the surfaces, also has a practical purpose since it keeps the soap dry. With this new range of soapdishes, the designers Klaus Bürger and Udo Hasenbein have come up with a product which has both a modern and classical elegance which, considering the nature of its shape, is no mean feat. The result is a combination of styles which should not be approached in an antagonistic way, but rather should be understood as the result of a fruitful and enriching dialogue.
